www.radiation.org
The Radiation and
Public Health Project (RPHP) is a nonprofit educational and scientific
organization, established by scientists and physicians dedicated to
understanding the relationships between low-level, nuclear radiation
and public health. The RPHP Study grew out of Jay M. Gould's book, The
Enemy Within: The High Cost of Living Near Nuclear Reactors, which
found that women living within 100 miles of nuclear reactors are at
greatest risk of dying of breast cancer.
Our current
emphasis is on The Tooth Fairy Project, a study of the levels
of strontium-90 in baby teeth. By measuring these teeth we are able
to determine the extent to which radionuclides are entering our bodies.
Once sufficient data is collected, RPHP will evaluate whether this radioactivity
raises the risk of cancer.
